WIRES Emergency Response within the wake of ex-tropical cyclone Alfred

Within the aftermath of ex-tropical cyclone Alfred, we wished to share some key insights from our Wildlife Rescue Workplace and spotlight our function in supporting native wildlife volunteers with search and rescue efforts.

From Wednesday, March fifth to Thursday, March thirteenth, 2025, our Wildlife Rescue Workplace obtained 6,137 calls, and documented 299 instances straight impacted by the ex-tropical cyclone.

Greater than 204 birds have been reported, 22 possum and gliders, 13 macropods and eight koalas. Appreciable numbers of lizards (eight) and freshwater turtles (seven) have been additionally reported
