College President Elected Lt. Gov. of New Jersey

As working mate to Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill, Centenary College president Dale Caldwell, a Democrat, received the New Jersey gubernatorial race on Tuesday in a 56 %–to–43 % victory over Republicans Jack Ciattarelli and James Gannon. 

“Each single day of this marketing campaign has been a reminder of what a particular place New Jersey is,” Caldwell wrote on X Wednesday. “I’m humbled and honored to be your subsequent Lieutenant Governor.”

Caldwell has served as president of Centenary, a Methodist college in Hackettstown, N.J., since 2023. Previous to assuming the presidency, he served on Centenary’s board, and he’s additionally a pastor at Covenant United Methodist Church in Plainfield. Caldwell was the college’s first Black president and in January will change into New Jersey’s first Black man to function lieutenant governor.  

“Centenary College wish to congratulate Gov. Elect Mikie Sherrill and Lt. Gov. Elect Dale Caldwell, Ed.D., on their victory within the current New Jersey gubernatorial election,” college officers wrote in an announcement Wednesday. 

Centenary officers haven’t but introduced who will function interim president or their plans to discover a everlasting alternative when Caldwell departs in January.
