WIRES helps Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance mission

The Helen George Mammal Grant Award – replace on Bacchus Marsh Platypus Alliance (BMPA)

WIRES is proud to assist BMPA, a volunteer-led group defending platypuses within the fast-growing Bacchus Marsh area in Victoria. In beneath 5 years, BMPA has grown from 5 to 65 members, together with a youth membership (Platypus Friends), and works to safeguard native waterways for platypuses and different native species.

With threats from litter, fishing gear, sediment runoff and stormwater influx, the grant is funding a multi-faceted mission together with:

  • Group Schooling – Animated movies (in English, Hindi + 1 different language), brochures, contractor booklets, and workshops.
  • Group Motion – Hazard elimination, “Crazy-Litter Blitz-a-thon” occasions, and ongoing clean-ups.
  • Emergency Preparedness – Volunteer coaching for injured platypus and wildlife rescue, with knowledgeable companions.

The mission protects ~30 native platypuses within the Werribee River and helps wider catchment populations by sustaining wholesome, linked habitats. This initiative unites residents, builders, youngsters, and culturally numerous communities in safeguarding certainly one of Australia’s most iconic and weak mammals.
